Whales, whales, and more whales

Our summer has been wonderful—so much wildlife to see!  The whales have been especially spectacular.  The only thing that is disappointing is our throttled cellphone hotspot bandwidth, so we’ve mostly been posting on our FB page and on our miniblog through predictwind (see previous blog or website for link).  We have a few more hours in Juneau with cell service, so I thought I’d try to get a photo-heavy blog uploaded.

Here are two whale moments to share with you, one in Hoonah Harbor (single whale bubble feeding), and the second in Chatham Strait (several whales cooperatively feeding).

Hoonah Harbor:

Single whale bubble-feeding right off the boat.  Here is a series of sequential shots after the whale blew a circle of bubbles and lunged vertically into the middle of the circle.

Chatham Strait:  About 7 whales bubble-feeding

And a close-up of one of the whales in the last shot.
