We have a large cabinet in the galley under the microwave, where we store most of our pots and pans. The cabinet is deep (26 inches), and there are many pots and pans, so you end up digging around in the dark, trying to find the an you want. In addition, the cabinets drawers were poorly designed, and I (Peter) broke the finger-pull handle off of both drawers in the last year. We presented the problem to our Design Team, and we came up with a great solution: put a large/heavy duty drawer in the cabinet, so that one could slide the drawer out and see the pots and pans.
We found a company in California that makes high-quality dovetail drawers to order. Because of the placement of the hinges, the dimensions of the drawer are critical – to the 32nd of an inch. So we measured and conferred and remeasured, and ordered the drawer and hinges. They also placed the end of the hinges in the correct position on the drawer. We got hard maple front and sides for maximum wear.
The drawer came this week. There was some angst when we unboxed it, but it fit perfectly. The hinges are soft close, so if you give it a push, it closes itself.
The drawer is way cool, and we are very proud of ourselves. I wonder, there must be something else on this boat that needs a drawer…

Must be a difference between British and american English, but hinges on a drawer doesn’t make sense to me. I wonder how it works?
I love it! What a great solution. The boat chefs will be SO happy. I always give myself a boat project for Christmas. This year, it is a new shower. Going to have the old shower torn out, and be sure that it is all waterproofed. Then going to have a tile guy come in and tile it. I think either white subway tiles and/or those small octagonal tiles – but for sure in white! Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season – and I am looking forward to spending some time with you on New Year’s Eve and also during the CYA COW weekend.
